The word "Navaratri" denotes nine nights of special importance and significance. Observed over a period of nine nights, the festival is famous almost throughout the country for its religious and social importance. It is devoted to the worship of the divine Mother in various forms under different names by different people.

Nava means "nine" and "ratri" means night. During the nine-night long festival of Navratri the supreme female cosmic power or Goddess Shakti is worshipped in her variously manifested forms as Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. All three Goddess are the incarnations of Goddess Shakti (the Mother Goddess). The festival signifies power, wealth, prosperity and knowledge.

Enjoy the festivities in your home and your community. The temple has special pooja as well and the big statue of Maa Durga in all her forms is truly a beautiful sight. Dont forget on Sarawathi puja - to keep all your books (especially the ones you are having the most trouble with) and pray to Lord Saraswathi for her special blessings to hlep you ace your year.
