Our current unit is the Mughal Empire. We started with the Mongolian emperor Ghenghis Khan and discussed the settling of the tribesman in central Asia, just north of Afghanistan. Then we discussed Babar, a Mongolian prince, who was influenced by Persian and Turkic culture and invaded India to claim the land of his forefather Timur. The kids learned the origin of the word Mughal. Then we moved on to Humayun and Akbar. We watched several short clips to learn about the First Battle of Panipat (the battle of canons versus elephants), Fatephur Sikri and Akbar's early years. Muslim sects, Sufi ideas and Din-i-lahi were mentioned. Next, we will learn about Shah Jahan, Auranzeb and the fall of the Mughal empire
