This week, we had picture day, and the kids all looked wonderful in their colorful Indian attire!

We also learned about the Yuddha (war) Kanda, where we talked about the war between Rama and Ravana, which ultimately led to Ravana's demise. The powerpoint is attached below.

The homework for this week is related to the powerpoint covered in class.
1. Who was the 'doctor' who asked to get the Sanjivani herb to save Lakshmana?
2. Who told Rama how to kill Ravana?

This week, we continued our lessons this week with the Ramayana Sundara Kanda, learning about how Rama and his army set out to rescue Sita, with the help of Ravana's brother, Vibhishana. We watched a video to go along with the lesson as well; the link is below:

In history, we began discussing the colonization of India. The kids learned about the Europeans' arrival in India (Portuguese, Dutch, French), and the British Raj.

Homework: Kids should complete the Diwali Word Search sheet, which was sent home. *Please note that many kids already completed and turned it in during class.*
In addition, please they should complete last week's homework if they have not already.

We started our lessons this week with Ramayana Sundara Kanda (Beautiful Book). Kids learned about how Hanuman leapt across the ocean to see Sita and how he set Lanka on fire.
We did not watch any videos on this but we will do so next week.

In our History unit, we discussed the concept of timelines and watched a funny video on States and Capitals.

We also had our first homework assignment!
Kids need to write down/find out which state(s) their parents came from in India.
Bonus points: Also write down 3 neighboring states of parents' states.
Note: This applies even if the parents were not born in India - we can discuss where in the world their parents came from.
We will start on the Colonization of India in the next class.

Parents - the Ramayana ppt shown in the class is attached to this post.  We told the kids to listen in class and take notes since all these will be included in a Jeopardy quiz later on in the year :-)
